Fern CanyonAugust 27, 2006 | Redwood National Park This is a shot from Fern Canyon just in the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Although this isn't exactly Redwood National Park, it is completely surrounded by it. In fact some of the best parts of this area aren't in the National Park. That is due to the state of California getting it's act together before the national government could. Logging had been devastating to the area and to protect the remaining lands, the state put aside areas to become state parks. Fern Canyon is an interesting place to visit. The walls are all at a 90 degree angle up from the creek bed. The walls, in turn, have been completely taken over by ferns. The drive to get to this location is very interesting. You enter on a dirt road where all the dirt has been combined rain and mist and created a mud that covered everything. Every thing looked completely unsaturated with no color at all. It was pretty crazy looking (and of course I didn't take a picture of it to prove it). | | | | MetadataCamera Nikon D200 Lens 12-24mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Shutter and f/stop 2 sec. @ f/10.0
