Suessical Tree

Suessical Tree

October 08, 2005 | North Cascades National Park

I found this tree in the fresh snow on my hike up around Lake Ann and Rainy Lake along route 20, just outside of the North Cascades National Park. This is a larch, an odd tree in that it changes color in the fall to a rich golden-yellow, and was everywhere on my hike. I liked this tree because it reminded me of the Dr. Suess trees we saw in his books. It is a small little guy, only a few feet tall. At the base of the tree you can see huckleberries making their last stand before the snow accumulates more.
