Seattle Sunrise from Kerry Park

Seattle Sunrise from Kerry Park

July 17, 2005 | Seattle

I have always wanted to take a picture of the sunrise in Seattle. This weekend I had my opportunity! I woke up at 4:21 and drove to Kerry Park - on Queen Anne Hill (in Seattle). I nearly missed the sunrise though. This is one of the first shots I got off. As you can kind of see the sun is rising more to the east. I'm looking basically south from where I stood this morning. Behind the city you can see the ominous Mt. Rainier, one of the largest mountains in the lower 48 states. The mountain just sits there on clear days and looks spectacular. I was lucky and caught a good morning for it. The odd structure in the middle of the picture is the world famous Space Needle, built for the 1963 World's Fair...and no, it is not directly downtown, but instead about 10 or 15 blocks from it. In the foreground to the right is Key Arena, where the Seattle Supersonics play basketball.
